HOME OF PRODUCTION
HOUSE FOR CONSTRUCTION TEAM AND A COMMUNAL HUB
GRADUATION PROJECT I
Site: HAVANA, CUBA
The project is located in Havana, Cuba. Since the whole country is facing the lack of building materials and the issue of poor living condition, he aim is to give a place for both the settlement of building constructing professional teams and also a productive communal hub, which specifically provided for local people to learn and share the knowledge of house construction and building material production.
On the other hand, the living style as a context is characteristic that people occupy every spacial resources, no matter public or private to contain the everyday life. It finally makes the strong interaction of public and demastic events and the boundary of space merges with the other.
The project is to come up with a kind of functional integration to solve the issue and simutaneously to give a special form based on modern architectural language to adapt to local sharing culture.
1. Lack of Living Resources: In the study area of Vedado, Havana, 20% (308) of the city fabric is in bad conditions or ready for demolish. In this condition, local people are used to create, recycle, build self-production as much as they could, which is a result of lack of life resources. 2. Cuban Living Style: People do expand daily activities to the street right in the front. The boundary inbetween the public and demostic is blured, which means personal everyday life is tightly interacting with social behaviors. 3. Site Perfect Grid: People do expand daily activities to the street right in the front. The boundary inbetween the public and demostic is blured, which means personal everyday life is tightly interacting with social behaviors.
When the need changes, the building can evolve without changing the structure system, that large scale public functions can be evolved to seperate units for housing. The longstanding structure and the space framework make it possible to replace all the public functions to housing units, to seperate each cell of the building and make sure each unit is accessible from the street. This is how the community itself grows along with the city's context and changable demand.
